Definitions

Logistic regression

  • A statistical model (also known as logit model) is often used for classification and predictive analytics. Logistic regression estimates the probability of an event occurring, such as voted or didn't vote, based on a given dataset of independent variables.

Difference between logistic regression and linear regression?

  • Linear regression is used to predict the continuous dependent variable using a given set of independent variables. Logistic Regression is used to predict the categorical dependent variable using a given set of independent variables.

Correlation coefficient

The correlation coefficient is a statistical measure of the strength of a linear relationship between two variables.

Pearson's correlation coefficient (r).

  • Correlation coefficient that measures the strength of the relationship between two variables, as well as the direction on a scatterplot.
  • It's the covariance of two variables divided by the product of their standard deviations. It is usually represented by ρ (rho). ρ (X,Y) = cov (X,Y) / σX.σY.
